Project Goal

To design and project manage a new modern primary and nursery school.

Solution

Delivered over two phases, the new school is set in a mock-Tudor conservation area and comprises a number of new buildings set around a two storey atrium in the heart of the school. The design solution of the external finishes and juxtaposition of building elements were used to create visual contrasts which identify the different schools areas, for example the hall, main entrance, primary classes and nursery classes. Whilst the use of brickwork, timber and render compliment the mock-Tudor estate, whereas the use of more modern copper cladding reflects the modernity of the adjacent church.

The school is a new build efficient building. Our energy efficient systems are 20% more efficient than those of a conventional school, resulting in lower running costs, increased comfort levels and thus an increased positive impact for all staff and pupils. Our long-term, whole life-cycle approach to costing sought to protect the environment and preserve natural resources. The new school provides an additional 446 places for pupils from the local community whilst providing a modern and effective learning environment.
